Burn trauma patients rehabilitation

This rehabilitation unit cares for adult patients who have been seriously burned (by fire, chemical substances or hot liquids for example), also called serious burn victims.

Our choice of state-of-the-art treatments has been rewarded by allowing us to become the reference centre in the field of serious burn victim rehabilitation in the French speaking part of Switzerland.

Burn wounds are one of the most violent of traumas. Rehabilitation is both long and laborious, and is weaved with many complex psychological and socio-professional challenges. For the patient to return to an acceptable quality of life an enormous interdisciplinary work has to be carried out by a team of dynamic and competent professionals.

Nurses, 2 occupational therapists,  6 physiotherapists, 3 orthoprothesists, 1 psychologist, 1 social assistant et 1 physician work daily to ensure all the chances of success possible for the patient. In the chain of specialised treatments, burn victims can come to the clinic for immediate re-education, after surgical grafting of their wounds, or in a later stage after surgical reconstruction of burn wounds. In addition to this, an occupational project can be put into place with the long-term situation in view.

Having been integrated within the burn victim department of the French speaking part of Switzerland, our staff work closely with the burns victims department in both the CHUV in Lausanne, and  Zurich University as well as various external partners who take over the care programme when patients return home.
