Assessment of the effect of an injury or illness on domestic difficulties (EPM)

The CRR is the only institution in the French-speaking part of Switzerland that provides this service. In the German-speaking part of Switzerland, the Suva Rehaklinik in Bellikon also does this. The EPM is used to measure the loss of capacity to perform unpaid activities, such as housekeeping, and childcare. It is also based on a standardised assessment method carried out by different health professionals, which aims to objectify and quantify limitations. These are then balanced with Swiss data on the time invested in domestic and family work by the working population (ESPA, Swiss Survey of the Working Population). Suva clinics, which bring together competent health professionals (doctors, occupational therapists and physiotherapists) under one roof and have the necessary infrastructure (e.g. test kitchen), are the appropriate place to carry out such assessments. The assessment takes place over 1 to 3 consecutive days. Although the EPM helps to assess the health restrictions of the affected person, it can also be used to optimise certain resources, to propose adaptations to facilitate household maintenance (strategies for handling heavy objects, use of facilitating instruments, etc.).

Only the civil liability and disability insurances take into account the notion of household incapacity. Suva does not insure any effects on household duties, so the question of conflict of interest does not arise.
