In collaboration with the Barry Foundation in Martigny, the Clinique romande de réadaptation has been offering a new service to its patients since last year: a therapy involving a Saint Bernard dog.
These sessions are organised with a dog trainer and therapists (neuropsychologist, physiotherapist or occupational therapist) from the clinic. They enable the patient to work on touch and manual dexterity while brushing the dog's coat, attentional memory or speech to give instructions, balance and gait while walking the dog, for example.
The contact with the animal allows the therapy to be approached from a new perspective. The relational, emotional and motivational aspects, as well as the capacity for endurance, perseverance and achievement, emerge in particular thanks to the Saint Bernard.
To better understand this type of therapy, watch the report on the RTS programme Couleurs Locales or read the article in Terre et Nature magazine.
